She is the daughter of her mother Lorraine Ruth Davis, a former actress, and her father Paul Anthony Sorvino, an actor. Sorvino has a younger sister Amanda Sorvino, an actress, and a younger brother Michael Sorvino, an actor. She attended Dwight-Englewood School in New Jersey, and she graduated from Harvard University with Bachelor’s degree in East Asian studies. She also enrolled at Council on International Educational Exchange.

Sorvino began a relationship with actor Christopher Backus in 2004 and the couple tied the knot on June 11, 2004. She gained fame for Linda Ash’s role in the film Mighty Aphrodite in 1995, for which she won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. She is also famous for Wendy Porter’s role in the movie Like Dandelion Dust in 2009, and she appeared as The Woman in the movie The Presence in 2010. Sorvino also starred as Lady Dynamite in the television series Lady Dynamite from 2016 to 2017.
