She is the daughter of mother Christine Carpenter, a bird sanctuary worker, and father Don Carpenter, a salesman. She has two older brothers Troy Carpenter and Kenny Carpenter. Carpenter studied at Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas and then she joined Bonita Vista High School in Chula Vista. She graduated from the Chula Vista School of the Creative and Performing Arts in Chula Vista.

Carpenter began dating Damian Hardy in 1997, and they got married on October 5, 2002. She gave birth to their first child a son Donovan Charles Hardy on March 24, 2003. The couple split in 2007 and divorced on July 8, 2008. She had been in a relationship with singer Michael Rossi in 2012.

Charisma started her acting career with Wendie Sanders’s role in the television series Baywatch in 1994, and she played Beth Sullivan’s role in her first film Josh Kirby… Time Warrior! Chapter 1, Planet of the Dino-Knights in 1995. She gained fame for Cordelia Chase’s role in the television series Buffy the Vampire Slayer from 1997 to 1999, and she is also famous for Cordelia Chase’s role in the television series Angel from 1999 to 2004. Carpenter briefly worked as a San Diego Charger cheerleader, and she also appeared as Ashley Green in the drama series Malibu Shores in 1996. She portrayed Rebecca Sewell’s role in the television series The Lying Game from 2012 to 2013.
